Monument for the battle for "het Molentje"

Location: crossing Molentje and Leopoldsvaart Oost, 8340 Moerkerke [gps]
Accessibility: fully accessible

This modest monument was erected to commemorate one of the most cruel events in the history of Moerkerke: the battle for "het Molentje".   On this very spot the Canadian advance was temporarily stopped by the German occupier.  This came at a high cost for soldiers and civilians.  Each year in September a memorial is held to remember this dramatic event.

For a full account, we kindly refer to the separate page on the battle [read it]
